I would pay $100 in a heartbeat. Considering I don't care much for Xbox Live, that's a steal.

and it makes sense because Microsoft can still sell peripherals ..good way to push HD, wireless controllers and hd-dvd players

Why miss out on what is best about the 360? GoW with no multiplayer or online co-op? No thanks.

A $100 360 would be tempting for alot of people sitting on the fence. Given the current lineups i'd still choose a 360 over a ps3 if they were the same price. If the 360 really was that much cheaper it'd be an even easier decision.

plus you could always buy a hard drive meaning you could go online with the core ..most premium owners will be buying a bigger hard drive anyways as soon as more are available ..12 G just doesnt cut it (8g or so is taken by os, right?)

A couple of gig are, not 8 though ;)

$100 core systems? Yes please!

Though I don't want anyone to off Sony and then dominate the way Sony has done. Competition is good!!

Me and my brother would be an $100 core system in a heartbeat. We're waiting for the prices to go down before we buy. When we do, we'd be getting lots of controllers and games to go with it... for sure.

well we're both wrong ..it's 7G not 8G ..players only have 13G of useable space

Which is plenty for most people. Demos and trailers are deleted after a week/month, saves are tiny and and Live arcade games are also pretty small. Connectivity to the pc allows for music and movies to be stored on hard drives which are cheap as chips :)

yes but it isnt convienent to continually make room on your xbox ..sooner or later most users will want a larger hard drive; microsoft is counting on that

Are you kidding me? The PS3 is going to sell like crazy once the modding community gets to it and games like DMC4, White Knight Story, The Getaway, KillZone and team ico's game come out. MS isn't doing to do badly either, but the fact that the PS3 is basically a 360 with insane modding possibilities is what makes it a winner to me.

Insane modding possibilities? It's freakin' hard to code for it, what are you talking about?

Have you not heard the developer horror stories about the PS3 - the damn thing is a coding nightmare
and that's the least of it's problems - the fundamental one being that it really isn't any good

Modding projects generally can take a year and even longer anyways. At least for PC games. The next consoles will likely be out by the time any decent player mods come out. Heh.

The concept of mods on a console is quite laughable to me anyways.

I can't see Microsoft getting anywhere near Sony. I won't be getting an Xbox or a PS3 this time around, but I might get a PS3 later on (1 year +).

Maybe - I haven't come close to filling my HD up.

I pictured you sitting atop a pedestal created out of Xbox 360 Core systems, with a crown of games, cackling maniacally and tossing dozens of wireless controls every which way

StardogChampion: Press releases are generally not very good for unbiased information. Remember when they promised Killzone was in-game? Remember when they promised Toy Story-quality graphics on the PS2? Exactly.

Heh, as much as I don't really care for the 360 a $100 console would be too much to pass up. If they did that I would probably buy one now and then get a PS3 at first price drop (when there will be a lot of good exclusives out).

Regardless though, the idea of cutting the price that low this early is just psycho, even MS couldn't afford it. The way it's looking now Sony will probably be the reigning champ again, the 360 isn't putting up as much of a fight as some of you seem to think. Just look at the sales numbers.

The Wii however has the potential to attain Ipod like popularity, we'll have to see.

with tv shows/movies in the pipeline, music downloads on the horizon etc ..throw in a couple of MMO's and a few more games and there you go; full hard drive

I filled my xbox after the second year and I dont play nowhere near as much as a typical xbox user

and microsoft CAN afford it ..they're currently turning a profit on sales of systems (for the first time since they entered the console market) ..about $60 per unit

they could easily make up up the hardware loss by having a much bigger installed user base ...more users = more royalties/licensing fees from games = more money

i mean, almost without exception everyone here would buy a $100 xbox360 (including me) ..when amazon had that $100 xbox core sale all 1000 of them were gone in minutes ..and analysts said that during that day demand for xbox360 outweighed that of ps3 and wii at launch ..that's got to show microsoft there is indeed a market for a cheap xbox 360

I have to say that GoW online is damn addictive D:

Japanese Role Playing Games.

MS never stood a chance. Good day.

^ Oh noes. A game genre.

Blue Dragon releases this week, I think, in Japan. It's 360-exclusive, and it got 9's and 10's across the board over there.

heh their installed base is a dismal 6000 units ...psone outsells the xbox360 in japan

heh so a "nostalgia" product has more sales than a new product? ...that's even worse

True True. I think this fact will mean at the very least that the PS3 stays afloat. MS will just have to hope that people will wake up to the fact that the genre is actually a bit gash. I do feel that many long-term fans are starting to question the worth of yet another Final Fantasy game, but the buggers will still sell...

edit: doesn't JRPG just mean "dumbed down Role Player with less Orcs and Wizards and more exciting Windows Start Menu branded gameplay"? Except when the gameplay consists of whacking things with a big key?

So? It has the most potential out of all the consoles. I expect the scene to be as big as the Xbox modding scene.

I believe I read the same article as you. Except the article was a tad bit wrong.
It took into account the manufacturing price of the 360 and the retail price it is being sold for which come around $60 - $70 "profit". However it failed to take into account shipping, store profiting, and etc...
