I was replaying the part of Water Hazard where you enter a base where Breen makes his first speech on you, it's grenade heaven and dozens of CPs started entering after I blew up this thing holding some pylons which I used to knock down a door barring my Airboat. So I slammed the door which had a transparent eyehole shut, and aimed for a Combine. I started to shoot through the eye hole and lo and behold: three decals just hovered in midair where the eyehole was. Just like the door with the glass, which was unbreakable I couldn't shoot through this one either. I guess they never placed a hole the actual model and it's simply a transparent texture.

In the first game a bullet could travel through the tiniest set of bars in a door. But we one can't pass through air in the second. Something to think about.

I just dicovered bullets don't travel through the holes of the tires either.

It's to do with the way that HL1 used brushes for things like pipes and doors, and HL2 uses models.

Suppose its a nice bit of realism in some ways, depending on the weapon which is being used, if you understand where im coming from.

I discovered the tire thing after wasting several minutes stacking them up and attempting to toss a grenade in only to have it fruitlessly bounce off every time.

No I don't know. What do you mean?

Well, in games that used the old engine such as 1.6 you could literally shoot through anything with nearly any weapon, whereas in games which use the source engine it doesnt allow you to do that, e.g to wall you can spam on d2 in 1.6, doesnt allow you to spam it in css.

Oh you think I mean punching through objects. No I mean the bullets are stopped in thin air, such as the hole in the tire and eyehole in the door.

Thats my only complaint about Source, is bullets dont go through what they should in real life, a magnum sends a tire flying, when if i shot one the bullet would go through the damn thing and the tire would prolyl not even move cuz of the bullet had so much force it just went straight through, i wanna freaking shoot through walls in css so bad its makes my heart hurt!

You can shoot through walls actually but for some reason other things are indestructable such as hedges.

Hmm, i do prefer realism in my games, and walls that are as thick as those in dust 2 for example can't really be penetrated with an m4 lol
