I dunno how many of you in these forums are uber geeks when it comes to computers but i will still speek *or type* my mind.

I have been working on computers ever since i got my very first Commodor 64 so i have been through the evolution of operating systems from the basic OS's of the C64, Apple 2, and the worlds first X86 based PCs. Back then nothing ever went wrong or "crashed" unless something was wrong with the hardware. Now with many OS's and systems to choose from it hard to make a dicission.
I'll just list a few OS's:
Linux, Unix, Windows, MacOS, Sun Systems, and of course Solaris.

I've been studying most of these systems in college, now some lean toward Linux, the free based software you can download, because it's free there is no really good support for it. Windows has lots of support and is probably the most buggy POS there is (because it gets frequent attacks from Hackers, crackers, phreakers, and coders, Linux claims to be hack free but i think that would change if every hacker in the world wanted to hack linux systems.). Mac OS is the best implyed system but is not the most compatable when it comes to hardware crossover. Sun systems are great; if you know every command in there OS, Solaris is a lame attemp toward a server system.

Here is my conclussion: EVERY OS SUCKS!!

We need to back to the good `ol days of IBM X86 PC's that used 16 bit chips with math co-processors. They never "crashed" when you used the DCom OS. just a thought... :dozey:

our family computer ran OS/2 for forever. (an OS that IBM made) it was pretty good and didnt crash that much (no more than XP). I think XP is the best windows yet. I think i have maybe crashed.....3 times? since it came out, on it? seriously i owuld recommend XP to anyone.

My Windows XP computers rarely crash, with this laptop, I've had*Counts* 2 crashes, neither of'em was because of XP(They were because I ran games that didn't like my graphics card) and I've had this one for*Counts* a half year.

The only time I ever crashed with XP is because Natural Selection froze (I think it's from a hangup in the DSL line)

Ahem... Amiga OS 3.9... Amithlon... Morph OS... not to mention Amiga Elate...

Very nice Amiga-based operating systems...

Linux claims to be hack free
I run Windows2k myself, I find it harder to crash from installing too many programs, easier on the system performance than XP. I hate all the small extra lil programs BTW, I just find them annoying. I hope this recent leak wont make it even less safe to use though

Also GeJoMasta, Linux does NOT!!! claim to be hack free, just alot more secure (if setup right ofcourse) and with alot less virus programs written for it. Remember this please it could save you from some flaming in the future ;o) But your right, if more people wanted Linux down it could happen, but its still better than Windows sequrity-wise :)

My computer has never frozen in the 5 months I've had it and I use Windows XP.

We're mostly gamers, so our only real choice is Windows anyway. I love the idea behind Linux, but its got a while to go until its user friendly enough for wide acceptance.
After having learned most of the ins and outs of how to keep an XP system running reliably I exprience very few problems that aren't the result of stupid things I've done.

Well i use XP and it only froze with CoD, but that was b/c of the error it has with Radeons.

windows xp here....works great never really had a big problem.....ive seen macintosh and windows but i have no clue what linux looks like... anyone have pictures of their linux system?

Yeah its linux with flux box. :)

This is a little closer to my config, with the icons and console. :)

holy...wait a minute..let me just wipe the blood from my eyes. i'm sure if the screeny was a big bigger and clearer it would make more sense.
