Operation Black Mesa is a Half Life 2 modification; the second installment of the award winning Half Life. Utilizing the immense array of features of the Source engine, the Operation Black Mesa team plans to remake Opposing Force in all it's glory in the Source engine.

Thats pretty sweet. Just hope no one does a blue shift remake...That game was bad enough haha.

Is this the one that has been churning on since Black Mesa Source was announced? It looks better than it did, but it still lacks the inspiration that would make it one to watch. Yes, the aforementioned BMS probably runs too far with its reinterpretations, but that's preferable to the Opposing Force remake approach was has always seemed to be too few steps beyond re-texturing the original and putting a bit of clutter in it.

It was called 'Barney's Tales' and I don't remember anyone posting an image of a purple dinosaur in derision. Now it's called 'Guard Duty', but you can call it 'Half-Life: Vapourware'.

Neither of them are that great :P

What I'd really like to see is a proper, re-imagined 'Opposing Force' where you're not given a pussy-assed 'didn't recieve your highly classified orders' excuse. Black Mesa works in weapons research, so it really wouldn't be a stretch to have the player up against some well-equipped and competent Science-Team foes. True, the story would ultimately swing the way of helping out the Science Team, but by actually building that into the story rather than portraying the HECU as a flippant army of goons activated by the orders passed down to them, it would just generally be more interesting.

I don't like any remakes, including Black Mesa.

Please no.

What if they did it really well (I didn't read the article). I personally loved the pit drone "AI". Kinda like splicer AI from Bioshock... if they charged you, they'd tail you at zero distance until you stopped, even for a fraction of a second, and attack. It made for some very frantic backpedaling while getting my weapons in order. I always enjoy a larger menu of monsters, even if it includes some less tasty fare, when it comes to FPSs - I say bring it.
