People please... a sanity check

Here are the facts.

1. People who go digging into resource files will spoil things for themselves. So if you were "just digging around" and found a complete list of everything cool in the game, don't blame VALVe.

2. The people in #1 who then immediately post all the information they found are the ones that need to be shot, not VALVe. HOWEVER, if they labelled their post "all the weapons in HL2" or "spoiler" then it is YOUR responsibility if you get things spoiled for yourself.

3. In a perfect world, the people in #1 or #2 wouldn't then go spread the word to everyone they could. Of course, this is the internet, and idiots abound. And even if they did post it everywhere they could, they still won't spoil anything for probably 80% of the people that will eventually play this game. Yes, our community here is big, but it is nothing compared to the likely millions of people that will play HL2, so let's not get delusions of grandeur in regards to our actual impact on the world here ok?

I hate to say it, but if you don't want HL2 spoiled at all, you really shouldn't be here. As an active community of enthusiasts, you will see all sorts of information (some false, some true, some outrageous), but you will get something spoiled. I've had some small things spoiled in my visits here, but I try very hard to not read any posts but the official valve response thread in hopes that I can avoid the guy who posts the AVI of the love scene between Gordon and Alyx.

Hopefully I don't come off as too presumptuous, but the frustration and anger level around here is getting out of hand.

btw about VAVLe and not being blamed ^^;

VAVLe are trying to upload as much as possible to cut out time wasted between releasing and playing. Meaning everypart of the stuff they upload could be considered by ppl in this forum to be releasing info they shouldn't be. People could say "VAVLe released loading screen!" or "Map preloaded by VALVe!" well put it this way, u have 2 options;

1) VALVe not uploading anything and you waiting a few days to download when its released.
2) VAVLe preloading all but the engine of the game, and you playing sooner, but its up to you not to peak as not to ruin the game for yourself.

If you're dumb enough to read a spoiler when it's labelled as such, it's your own damn fault. True.

It is not Valve's fault if assholes spoil the game for you. They are not the ones that ripped the files from the cache and spread the word. Also true.

However... If you are the one that allowed the said files to be downloaded onto the computers of people that should not have them, then you have made one stupid-ass mistake.

No they shouldnt be blamed idiot. Mistakes happen, but if Valve has some technical mistake in the game then fine, but this is Cache file that someone tapped into when they are not suppose to. So they already broke the agreement with the steam by tampering with files they shouldn't, the people to blame for SPOILERS, because thats all this topic is REALLY about is the people who exploit them and you who may read them, enough said.

They can only show you a door, you're the person responsible for walking through, ruining the game for yourself, and complaining without justification about Valve giving you files you "didn't want to read/see"

True. However, he seems to be implying that if the game was spoiled for me, it's completely reliant on my self-control... which isn't always the case. I mean, I really haven't heard too many people bitching about the game being spoiled for them when they're responsible for that consequence. The only time I hear such complaints are when somebody has spoiled it for them without forewarning.
