New Line has officially told Peter Jackson they would no longer need his services for The Hobbit and other LOTR prequels.

According to a letter sent to The One Ring from Peter Jackson, it looks like a lawsuit involving the studios accounting practices has kept Peter from signing on to the next LOTR movies. New Line is going to lose the rights soon unless they can find a director to move the project forward. So, what's a poor studio to do. That's right, fire the director who brought in billions of dollars.

Begin lamentations of New Line's stupidity and doom here.

I didn't read that they fired him, i read they simply are running out of time and money to film "The Hobbit" and have replaced him with a different director?

to actually fire Peter Jackson would be a monumentally stupid move by any studio.

Its less fired than "not hired." Its still stupid, and I'd be surprised to see them really move forward without him.

I bet Guillermo del Toro could make a good movie of the Hobbit. But really, losing Jackson was a stupid move for New Line.

So theres no more Hobbit? :( Damn, I wanted to see that.
And fire Jackson? What a stupid move.

they should take Quinten Tarrentino as director for the Hobbit.
Now there's a cool movie :P

other LOTR prequels.
WTF? I know there's one other book, starts with S. But are they just going to start making stuff up now to cash in?

Silmarillion...bitch of a book to try and read

What, does it keep slapping you in the face while you read it?

That was just the beginning, after that it jumped up and closed shut on my nose...then i moved south..i've never been the same man again

D:

:( The Hobbit will be ruined. Only Jackson could pull it off.. although really, they needn't make up any prequals or shit like that, just stick the text and the hobbit can easily only be one 3 hour film... it's a short childrens book.
