Hello Zerox,

Yes this is very possible with the physics used with the Source engine. Do you own a copy of Half-life 2 already? If so that's a good start. There is a modification called "Garrys mod" which basically allows you to spawn any objects and weld / tie / bolt together, with hinges / pulleys and all sorts. You could make all sorts of structures, it's good fun.

This mod is now official and can be bought on Steam for $5, look in the Steam shop for it to download. Before it was released officially, here is the download link for the last version which is free and should still have many feature you need for your project - Download here

You'll need to spend some time getting used to building things, there is a learning curve, so just have a mess around. Traps are popular to make in Garry's mod and I've seen a few on youtube which people have made. Just by searching "Garrys mod traps" in youtube I found the two videos below which show you how to make some traps you could use:

We also have a dedicated Garry's mod forum here - http://www.halflife2.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=101 which is run by our Gmod expert atomicspark85. Good luck with your project!

hey mate

This is the exact kind of thing im looking to do but i cant use the garys mod for my uni work

Is it possable in the normal engine ?

Garry's Mod uses the normal engine; it's just a mod.
you can do some of that in Half-Life 2, but making your own mod would be your best bet if you can't use Garry's Mod.

Well, I guess maybe you could use hammer, but that'd be programming and map making. When you go into Steam, start up Source SDK.
