Please help! HL2 stopped working after i tried to change video settings

I recently bought a copy of the orange box and installed HL2 and everything was fine, i was able to launch and play the game. But then i tried to change the video settings while playing the game from 1024 x 768 to 832 x 624 to see if it made much difference, but as soon as i did this HL2 crashed and now it won't let me launch the game.

I have tried unistalling and reinstalling but it still doesn't let me launch HL2. I click on launch from the "my games"' menu in steam but nothing happnes. Can someone please tell me how to fix this error?

I have seen some posts where it says to go to properties and then "set launch properties" and change some settings there, but whenever i go into that area it just says that these options are for advanced users only and doesn't list any options?

Try going to Properties and "Set Launch Options" like you saw, and in the text prompt it gives you type (without quotation marks) "-width 1024 -height 768" and try launching it.
