Hi,
I have just bought a spanking new PC, and have been enjoying the delights of Far Cry and Rome - Total War.

Half Life is my favorite game of all time.

I was absolutely HORRIFIED to discover that in the minimum specs for Half Life 2 - INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED. What the heck???!?! So i HAVE to be connected to the net to have this game?? Why? Is there any way round this? As my PC at home wont be on the net for a while yet.

Thanks in advance

Posted before use the search.

Take your PC to a friends to validate your files, then play offline.

Yeah, sorry buddy, you need an internet connection to authenticate it. After that, there's no problem working in offline mode. If you can cart your PC to a friends, college or uni, you could hook it up there :)

EDIT: Beaten :O

Half Life2 requires an internet connection to authenticate ur copy of the game.
the Steam program is used to access the game and keep it updated as far as bugs and other things go...so yeah, theres no way around it as far as i know.

what u could perhaps do is authenticate ur copy via a computer which has internet access, download the updates and then copy the downloaded content onto DVD and install it on ur own computer.

thats the only solution i can think of.

cheers guys. It does seem like a crazy way of going on - i think i'll give HL2 a miss until i get connected, maybe get F.E.A.R instead.
