Please Help !!

I dl HL2 from Steam last night from one IP at a rate of about 55kbs. When I got up this morning the progress bar was full with the play game option highlighted, but net limiter showed I was still downloading from about 5 IPs at a combined rate of about 5-8kbs. I clicked the 'Play Game' button and the game doesnt load, it just seems to stick at the 'Game Loading' screen... is it still downloading files ? I tried rebooting as the PC hung and I still get the same results. What should I do ?

I tried CS:S and that worked fine...

To make matters worse my bro bought the retail version for £27 and was playing all last night =/ Any advice appreciated as he is laffing at me for using steam - I wanted DoD

Your HL2 is probably still loading. I had to wait an additional 4 HOURS after it said that HL2 was ready to play before I could actually play it. To check if it is still loading, in the play games screen, right click on halflife2, and pick properties -- the percentage should be 100%, or it won't play. If it is less than 100%, make sure it is set to automatically update, and then right click on your steam icon in the system tray, and there should be an option for monitor (or something like that) that shows what you are downloading on steam, and how fast. Once it is at 100%, you should be able to play.
