Polygon Count Question

Stupid question, but...
...When they say 2000 polygons, do they mean tri's or poly's
I'm just making sure, because if its tri's i don't want to have my model be 2000 polys and 3500 tri's or anything like that.. Thanks!
 
im pretty sure in todays game engines that polys dont matter much and people sometimes go to old habbits anc call tris polys but you can never know
 
I always take it that they mean tris when they say polys. So if they say it's 2000 polys, I wouldn't expect the model to be 4000 tris.

Like jmjneary said, it's more all the bumpmaps/specular/normal maps etc etc that kill your performance rather than the amount of polys in a scene. But don't go crazy anyway.
