First off: I have ZERO experience. With anything.

Now, here's the point... questions... whatever...

1. Suppose that I wanted to bypass the whole... creative... making my own stuff thing (which is really only because I don't know how) and take weapons from, say, CS:S and port them into Half-Life 2:
a. How technical is it going to get? (Can I do it?)
b. What do I need in order to do it?
c. How do I go about it?
2. If I wanted to change certain stats of weapons (again in HL2 for simplicitys sake), such as firerate, mag capacity, etc... things that aren't accessible via console.
a. (same as above)
b. "
c. "

I'm sorry if this is amaturish, or bothersome in any other way, but I have wanted to do this... for awile. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thank you.

Sadly the point of your post ended at "ZERO experience". D:

Yeah, thought that might be the case. Still, I like to tinker with things like this... I think there is a chance I can pull it off if given the right direction. After all, I have to start somewhere.

PS Yes, I am aware that there is most likely coding involved, probably some from scratch. I have looked into this a bit on my own... I'm just a little lost.

Just use garrysmod. It has a simple scripting language (Lua) that can allow you to make any weapon you like, just reference the model (can be one you downloaded, or one already existing inside the game, you just need to know the file path or name), the sound (same deal as the model), and then you configure all the settings (like damage, rate of fire, secondary modes etc).

By doing this, you create Scripted WEaPons, or SWEPS as they are called. Garrysmod comes with most of the CSS weapons in SWEP form. You can just spawn them on the ground with the in game menu.

Garrysmod allows you to play through the singleplayer hl2 game with access to all the lua modifications you care to install/download. I suggest browsing the official forums at forums.facepunchstudios.com for more detailed information.

Read the stickies in the lua sections etc.

Garrysmod is a sandbox mod that allows you to mess around with all the hl2 assets. You can make unlimited things, from rocketsleds to giant catapaults that launch dr kleiner, to explosive fireworks/missiles, helicopters, robots, anything.

I have Gmod 9, but wasn't aware of that aspect of it. I'll be sure to check it out. Gmod does have the unfortunate tendancy to crash on me after prolonged runtime, which is the main reason I've used it so little.

Nevertheless, I'm still interested in the direct approach. The idea of using someone else's mod as a shortcut to do what I may or may not (but, feel like I should) be able to do myself isn't completely satisfying. At the very least, I would like to know where I need to start.

Thanks for the advice.

i am afraid that he waz talking abt gmod10 which is obviously not free for download. it can be purchased over steam. hardly 10$ or so, but 10 times worth the money... : )

Without the source code, it'll rely on you interpreting what the weapons do. There's no easy way around it beyond actually coding them from the ground up.
