its a highend professional piece of software, thats whats up...

Full lisence for XSI will set you back $20.000 USD. Which I should say is quite cheap since these high end packages are used in motion pictures with budgets into the hundreds of millions of dollars.

yeah, and it is one MOTHER of a B to crack. But its do-able. :-) who needs money, when you have technology!

so where does everyone get there copies from? I really doubt people have paid 20 000 for some software...

The irony of the mod community: can't live with warez, can't live without them.

Most companies offer a learning or demonstration version of their software. In the case of Maya, its called Maya PLE (personal learning edition) and can be downloaded from http://www.alias.com/.

Other options include Discreet's GMAX software, which is basically a toned down version of 3D Studio MAX geared toward game modding, or SoftImage's XSI EXP.

A free version of XSI is supposed to ship with HL2, so if money is tight I would suggest giving EXP a try. Valve is going to release plugins for both Maya and 3D Studio MAX, but I don't know if they will work with GMAX and PLE.
