problem:server unavable

alright me and my buddy wanted to play a private room just me and him and i tried to make a game then he tried to join and it says server not responding... he tried to make a server too and the same thing happened! whats wrong?? it doesnt make sence someone please help

It makes perfect sense. Are you on the same local area network? Are you at different houses? If it's the last one and you're behind a router, you'll need to forward port 27015 to your machine. Go here: http://portforward.com/ Good luck!

If you are not on LAN, make sure whoever is hosting puts in console:

sv_lan 0

Also useful:

sv_password yourpasswordhere

...to lock the server.
