problem with automatic update

when at i click at half-life 2 movies, and choose properties, i see a thingy with "do not automatically update this game" when i change that to "always keep this game up to date" it just hops back to Do not automatically etc .

what can i do ??

ive had the same troubles while trying to do that for HL on steam...steam has many bugs and its been acting screwy lately. dont know what to tell ya.
