I have azura's star and Umbra sword. Im not able to store the souls in the star. when i kill them it says:
"There isnt a gem big enough to capture this soul"
I dont know what im doing wrong. The star is empty btw.
Any idea what the problem could be?

er, i think you need a soul gem, not the azuras star

No, the star can hold souls, there is just a very small limit to what it can hold, I think it can only hold about as much as a lesser stone

Are you sure you are not trying to capture sentient souls? Only souls of unthinking creatures can be captured in soul gems/azura's star. There is rumored to exist exeptions, but that is off topic.

The humanoids in oblivion are sentient, and can thusly not be soulcaptured.

Hmm, I can store great souls in mine. Could this possibly scale with player level? Or do you possibly have to "build" the capacity of the star, starting at the bottom and working your way up to bigger souls?

Funny thing is, I actually seem to remember not being able to store fire atronarchs a while back, but now I can store them, and bigger souls too.

It probably scales with level.

That would make sense, but I haven't had my star in almost 7 levels since I gave it to Martin for the main-quest

The Azura Star is a reusable grand soul gem. Also the artifact cannot store human souls, so if it looks like a human, then don't bother. If you want to store human souls, you need to make black soul gems. Also the only way I got a grand soul was by using master level summons.

I've gotten grand souls into Azura's star no problem, but I am over level 20 and have just started the second oblivion gate by Bruma. You just can't power it up, so to speak. Once whatever soul you capture gets in there, its there until you use it. That disappointed me too, but its still great to have a gem like that for enchantments!!!

Okay i guess i was trying to kill humanoids.
worked with some creatures in oblivion
thanks a lot

Where do you get Black Soul Gems? It's not that I want one for collecting souls, just I need to give one as a sacrifice to a deity.

Sure...You know you want to harvest some souls.

If you're doing quests for the Arcane University, you'll come across an alter that necromancers uses. Shove a gem into the alter and I believe you want until night time. Have fun harvesting souls in towns.

Edit: There are like 4-5 alters I believe, I only came across 2. The alters are outside.

Hmm, does anyone know if that would work with Azura's Star? Imagine turning that into a black soul collector?! Good stuff....
