Problem with first run/registering cd-key of HL2!

havin a problem with the first run of hl2.. when i try to register my cd-key, i get an error that says that i have to install half-life 2 retail standard before continuing.. i have already installed ffs.. is it something with steam ? i wanna play :'( *sadface*
I have tried to remove and reinstall several times, still doesnt work.. :|

I suggest going back to the retailer and getting a fresh copy to start again with. If you haven't registered your CD-Key (because you are unable to) then you'll still be alright to use the same username.

Check the steampowered.com forums first, there could be other people with the same problem... in fact I am willing to bet you aren't the first. Do a search there.

Fixed it.. Had to install a second version of steam, on another location! Dont ask me why, but at least it works.. thx for the respons
