Problems installing 3rd party games

Hi,
I have a copy of HL2 - but I want to install Frontline Forces a mod available under HL(1)

Where do I drop the folder? I have tried

steamapps\username\Half-Life2\HL2 as it would normally be installed in half-life\frontline

I cannot get Steam to recognise the 3rd Party game - no matter what folder I put it in

Can any one help - TIA

Ummm you gotta install Half-Life 1 for the mod to work, and then you put it under /username/Half-Life 1/

You can't put it in HL2 because it wasn't made for it.

Actually, it isn't hard to do. Just register the CD-Key for your copy of HL, and Steam will download the necessary files. From there, you just move your mod into the correct folder.
