I ran SiSoftware tonight and i have found out that

my BIOS is 3 years old and needs updating,
the windows memory page file is too large,
my memory bus speed exceeds the memory rated speed
and surisingly it also told me that one of my memory slots are free.....when it has a 128MB stick in it (thus telling me i have 384MB of memory rather than the 512 that i actually have).

I will try reseating the memory in a bit, but does anyone know of any other reasons why it may not be showing up?

By sorting out any of these could i seriously mess up my computer in the process (because it runs okish now and i just dont wanna muck it up as its the family comp)?

One good thing to come out of running it is that i found out my refresh rate was at 60hz, now its at 80. Everything looks so much nicer now lol

p.s. i'm a total n00b when it comes to BIOS and stuff like that, any help would be appreciated :)

The Memory stick might not be in the DIMM completly. open the case and find that stick, then remove it from the DIMM and replace it in.

The page file cna never bee too large :)

BIOS doesn't *have* to be updated.

generally, if your computer is running fine, you dont update your bios.

the only reason to update it is if you're having issues which you know are resolved in a newer bios version.
