Been fiddling around with Rubik's cube(s) lately, and I had this idea while in the shower.
One of the local mages on the University grounds informs you of an Aylied statue a passing adventurer found. He tells you that he sent a crew out to investigate the other day, and says that you might be interested in the statue.
So, you travel out to the site, and you're greeted by a troupe of scholars who tell you what they've gathered of the statue so far. They tell you that the most they know is that it's both mechanical and enchanted. Other than that, they're stumped, and have no clue as to how the statue works, or what it's supposed to do.
However, you immediately recognize the statue as a ****ing huge marble Rubik's Cube, only it has symbols etched on it instead of colored stickers.
Chatting around with the crew nets you some info. One of the crew members believes the statue may be some sort of puzzle. Another of the crew members shows you a site that he's been digging at. He's found a Bronze Post with four prongs on it sitting to the south of the Cube, and, only a few feet away, has found a small stone model of the giant cube. He gives you the model and tells you to see what you can get out of it, and come back tommorow in the morning (there's a small camp around the statue/dig site that you can rest at, and a bit farther away, a small village with a blacksmith and an Inn).
The stone cube can be selected just like a book, oppening an interface that allows you to play around with it like you would a real life rubik's cube.
You come back the next morning, and the man tells you that he dug up a tablet that instructs one to place the model cube he dug up into the four prongs on the bronze post. He doesn't know what'll happen when you do it, but urges you to hurry, as the entire team has been waiting for you to come back (so they can put the model into the podium).
He also shows you a chest that they dug up. The chest is ontop of a large marble stand, and is glowing white, but has nothing in it.
You rest the cube into the podium, and the camera angle switches to one giving a perfect view of the "statue cube". Shortly after, the interface that you get when selecting the model pops up, only now, when you change a row/collumn on the model, the large "statue cube" mimics the move. You can exit the interface and walk around the cube to get a better view of it, then come back to the podium and go back at the cube.
The objective is to get either make one side all one shape, or to solve the entire cube. The six symbols correspoding to the six sides are a sun, a moon, a lunar eclipse, a heart, an oblivion portal looking thing (the one on the oblivion box cover, that has a little dot in the middle), and an eye.
Depending on which side you complete, a different item appears in the empty chest the crew dug up. For the suns, a weapon with a fire enchantment will apear, for the moon, a weapon with a damage attribute effect will apear, for the lunar eclips, an item fortifying either sneak or chameleon will apear, for the oblivion portal, an item fortifying conjuration will apear, and for the water droplet, an item fortifying overall magic or an item fortifying illusion will apear.
If you solve the entire cube, you wil be rewarded with both a weapon with all of the weapon attributes outlined above mashed into it, and an item fortifying all of the worn attributes outlined above.
Yes, I was bored.
Thoughts?
EDIT: What if, when you solve the cube, you also get a golden cube model that, when solved for a side, will give you +20 resistance/fortification to the symbol you solved, and when solved completely, will give you +10 resistance/fortification for all symbols?
