question about screenshots

Hi all, new here and to HL2. I noticed while reading the Interesting Poses post that several of the screenies have like a picture in pictue in the upper right of the screen. what is that?

It's a tool in Garry's Mod that allows you to freeze an image with the revolver.

OK, but what purpose do they serve?

You can look what is happening in a part of the map that you want to see but don't want to be there.

I suppose it could be useful if you wanted to keep an eye on something across the map. Kind of like TVs with picture-in-picture (or whatever its called)

That's a feature of Garry's mod. If you're holding the revolver and you press alt-fire, it toggles between four camera modes. Primary fire places a camera where you are standing.
