Can you use gmod with Ep 1?

Yes you can. But that would be limited gameplay. Less props and ragdolls.

Have both GMod and Ep1 installed and try something like this

Or you can wait a week or so (hard to tell Garry has been sick) for GMod to update, which will add Ep1 content to the spawn menu's.

No, Ep2, not Ep1. Yeh you can search through the folder, but that will take ages to find a prop you want.
