ok i just started playing HL2:ep1 about 4 gameplay hours ago and got to fight all the headcrab zombies and was wondering if any one knew how the heck a headcrab can increase your strength by like 10 fold??? i mean those zombies are really strong if you think about it they through barrels like nothing  anyone got any ideas.... if this is a repeat thread just let me know where i can read the original thanks!

Ummmm, if you had played Half-Life 2, this would not be anything new to you.

I doubt the headcrabs bother to interface with the pain receptors in zombies (as in because they're external hosts, they have to manually configure themselves to move the muscles), so their Pain threshold and movable weight increases by a huge amount.

There's also the fact that most of the vital organs aren't so vital anymore. So basically, to kill them you have to render the body useless through sheer damage or attack one of the two existing vital organs(namely the brain and the headcrab on top of it).

Well in Half-Life 1, the headcrabs mutate the bodies to make them stronger. The ribcage opens and becomes a feeding mound. The bones in the hands lengthen to form claws. The strength in the limbs (especially the arms) are increased to kill prey more easily.

Headcrabs likely use some kind of chemical that promotes muscle growth. Which is why I expect to see major league baseball players with them on thier head in the near future.
