R6: Vegas for PC leaked

??nema, the average budget for a commercial game these days is over 10 million USD I believe, thinking that it's okay to without the creators OK, take that, without giving anything in return, is an absurd thought.
I think if you spent 10,000,000 dollars on something, you'd be pretty pissed too if people couldn't even give you 50$ for what you've done.:)
Then again just because something cost $10mil to make, it doesn't mean it's a good game. And games are $60 here.

Just because something's not a good game doesn't give you the right to download it and play it through for free, I've seen alot of people use the argument it's not a good enough game to buy, yet they play through the entire game..
In the end my point was that games aren't free to make, there's a reason they want to charge people for them.

If I really like a game, I will buy it, pirating is just a way of testing it out.

I'm a mix. If I really believe that a game is going to be good, I go out and buy it, no questions. Sometimes I'm wrong, but oh well.

Other times, it'll be a game that I tried at a friend's place and hated. Then six months later, I'll wonder if I should try it out again. After playing it, sometimes it's still bad, sometimes it turns out to be enjoyable, and I'll almost always end up buying games that I enjoyed.

Holy shit! This game doen't support the X800 series! Are the graphics just so damn good that a X800 card can't handle it? From most of the pc screens I've seen (most of them from pirated version :rolling: ) it didn't look THAT good.

Lars Ulrich is right guys, pirating is bad, mmmk :frown:

Testing as in playing the entire game for free and then losing any and all interest in buying it?

XIII: Games cost too much _because_ of the pirating. I said it was a Catch-22 situation where both sides can't really stop because of the other. Prices get inflated because of the pirates. Pirates continue to pirate because of the rising game costs.

There's a reason why developers put out demo's and videos. There's also a reason for demo's and renting games (not for PC though). It's to show people what they will be buying. If they don't like it, don't buy it! However, due to the ease of piracy, people love to think that pirated games are like demo's since they get the whole thing for nothing!

Just because games are expensive, that doesn't give you an excuse to pirate them. For example, I think Ferrari's are too expensive. Should I steal one then?

You all know the answer.

I hardly pirate at all. I am quite good at keeping my word when a game grabs my attention and going out and buying it.

Last game I pirated Max Payne 2, and I can't find it :(
So I'll probably buy it again.
Another example, I bought Rise of the Triad about 2 hours ago, a game I could easily use bit torrent to dl, especially because it's so small.

UBIsoft has yet to put out a demo. Or any official PC videos. Hell, they haven't even put out any offical PC screenshots.

Oh, but they had no problem putting the game out to people with little or no information.

True, pirating is incredibly hurtful, but UBI is hardly making good business choices. I'm glad they put out a patch very quickly to solve some issues, but that doesn't excuse the complete lack of media and points towards a knowledge of problems prior to release. I know Day 1 patches are standard practice now, but that doesn't make them excusable. I don't want to have to buy a game to find out everything about it, especially to find out that it's poorly optimized and buggy.

I think Ferrari's are too expensive. Should I steal one then?
Agreed on all points except this one, since it's not a fair analogy. If it were "I think cars are too expensive" then it would be perfectly fine.

Don't worry, it sucks on 360 too so the PC-only rehabs won't be too 'kicked in the face.'

What is a "PC-only rehab"?

Agreed.

Look at Splinter Cell: DA. All it has is higher poly player models and shiny ice. Nothing SM2 can't do.

ubisoft=next EA or worse than EA...at leastEA dont force u 2 buy a new freakin card 2 play their crapy games

No one's forcing you to do shit. Don't buy the game. This is the mentality that pisses me off - the 'rights' some of you dumbasses think you have.

Most everyone's torrented games before, including me. The difference is I don't try and justify my illegitimate 'purchases' with some pompous bullshit about how developers aren't worthy of my respect, about my 'right' to a franchise.

You want to pirate, that's fine, just don't try and justify it. Games cost money to produce, and intellectual property is just that, property. Glamourising what is essentially theft isn't an excuse.

While I'm not about to justify piracy, I am very uncomfortable with the assertion that piracy is theft. It is, by definition, not. Call it fraudulence maybe. Or some other criminal description. However, the definition of theft is, essentially, that you unlawfully deprive someone of his property. Piracy isn't that - piracy is unlawfully using a copy of the property. Since the actual crime there consists of obtaining the copy illegally (not paying for it), I am much more inclined to call piracy fraudulence than theft.

Well technically, you're depriving the publisher and developer of potential profits from your purchase of the game.

Exactly. Profits aren't property, they're profits. And that's a totally different crime.

There are many similar fraudulent crimes, when someone, for example, is duped into selling his property. In that case, the sale itself will be legal, and the crime won't be theft. However, it can be fraud.

Then again, the point is pretty moot. Piracy isn't legally considered theft anyway, it's just an often-made comparison. In law, piracy is considered a separate crime altogether, not theft and not fraud. Which is probably best.
