Just about to install Half-Life 2... what settings do you recommend for this setup...

Athlon 2800+
512mb RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200 (yes i know...)

Sorry for the n00b question, and if this is spam, sorry as well.

I'd leave it at what Valve sets your settings. You'll be pleased with the experience. If you do end up being unhappy, you can drop your audio to medium, up your resolution, turn off shadows, make sure AA is off, and turn up the model quality (NOT TEXTURES!! Will slow down a lot!), and maybe like the efx quality. Most people (unless they have a 6800 or x800 or such) are fine with what valve detects your system should play at (for the best looking experience without any noticable drops in performance. After all, why have it look amazing if it plays like a slideshow?)

Model detail: High
Texure Quality: Medium
Shaders: on
Resolution: 1200x960

The game will show you your recomended settings, so don't worry. Welcome, and I hope you'll enjoy the game. :)

You'd probably get a better response if you posted this in the technical discussion forum....
Anyway, you'll probably only be able to run HL2 at medium/low settings (1024x768 res, no AA or AF, medium or low textures). Half-life 2 is surprisingly scaleable, so dont worry about not being able to run the game.
