Is it possible to reinstall Steam without losing all the downloaded content, games/media etc?

On the Add/Remove list in Control Panel it is like 3gb.

Your content is on one of Valve's servers.
Some people don't want to wait for the game they paid for to download all over again. Some people might not have a fast connection anymore, and others might not have much of their monthly cap left.

And why would ANYONE want to wait hours / days to re-download a game, when you can just save it to a disc, and re-install from that within minutes? Not too bright, are you.

Anyway, just go into Steam, and click File -> Backup Games. Yes it is THAT simple, and is the first thing on the list. Make sure all of your games are ticked, and off it goes to squish them all into ONE exe file. It takes about half an hour if you have a few games, because it pisses around encrypting all the files etc. Then all you need to do is install Steam once you have re-formatted, connect to your account, and double-click the exe. Another 30 mins to decrypt, but it beats having to get CD1, CD2, CD3 etc. It installs ALL your games with ONE double click. It's about the only good thing about Steam.
