Yea expect online reviews EXTREMELY shortly after. Like maybe less than a week or so. Why so quick? Well think of all the hits they will get! Then they can have those banners that redirect them to like EBGames and where to get the game, and it makes them money from you buying it, at no cost to the customer.

Online reviews definitely, if the game goes gold. Maybe some shiat PC Gamer will also review a preview-version.

i think the important thing about a magazine date for the review is that yo can get a vague idea of when it shall be out taking into account the way magazines always come out early and get games for review sooner.

September or October issues (depending on publishing dates). If Valve go gold in early august, they will hand out the review copies just before then. If a magazines deadline is about a week or 2 after that, then we should see it in the September issue I think. I suspect that deadlines will be missed tho which means October issues!!

Don't keep your hopes too high. The maximum a site like gamespot is going to give is probably a 8.5 or below. IGN might give it slightly higher - but below 9 I can assure you. Never trust game sites.

I don't know if review copies are always based on the gold code, but I see no harm in sending a review copy that's 2 weeks before gold, there will be no major changes in the game and probably most bugs have been fixed. That way we can get reviews before the game hits the shelves.

But don't trust ANY first review, magazines go in great length to get an exclusive and may make deals like a minimum grade of 9.5 or something. Not that I wish to imply Valve is gonna do this, but it happens often enough, even with respectable companies (Rockstar).
