Running Custom Single Player Maps

Well, i feel pretty stupid having to ask this, but how do you actually run custom made HL2 maps? Ive downloaded a few and put them into the appropraite folder, but when I run HL2 there is no option anywhere for running custom made maps. Do I have to do it via the console ro something? (I just know its going to be something stupid i missed)

Bring down the console and type in
map <mapname>
Where <mapname> is the name of the map you want to play. Usually after you type map and put a space you'll get list of the maps in the maps folder.
