For fans of the hybrid RTS/FPS/RPG game Savage, Savage 2 has just been released by independent developer S2 Games.

This should tide me over until the release of Natural-Selection 2. For those that don't know the new payment system is LAN/Tutorials are free, as well as the client and 5 hours of online play. To continue playing online you need only pay $29.99USD once.

Beta was buggy as hell, I'll hold out until I see reviews.

I have confidence in the game, as the devs are great people who are awesome at patching and listening to the community.

I wasn't in the beta but I really enjoyed the first. I'll at least do the 5 hour trial to see if it's in better shape.

How is abandoning the game and leaving it to the community to made a succession of mods to fix it up and improve it making them great?.

Savage 2 looks good, and they've learned lessons from the first so on so on, good devs, but all they did was release Savage one and like 2 patches then abandoned the game in all but legal rights.

The game is free until you play it for 5 hours & then you have to pay a one time fee to continue playing? I like that idea quite a bit. Gives you a chance to put the game through it's paces before you decide to fork over your hard earned cash or not.

I enjoyed playing the first Savage for several months until I moved onto other games.

This game is awesome.

Definitely worth a buy :)

It does have a few stability issues right now, but the devs work fast and get patches out quick (they already have one out now).

Lovely how it wants to check for updates every single time and takes forever to work out your running the latest version. Sheesh whoever coded that needs to smack themselves. Version checking should be practically instant.

Client: Hello server I am version 1.x
Server: Hello client running 1.x you are running the latest version.
Client: Great.

The un-installer is also broken and leaves remnants of the install behind such as start menu items.

Yeah it release in a bit of a rough state, they were probably desperate for the money and just wanted to put out what they had. When it is playable, though, it's great fun. It's hard for me to be as outraged considering the developer is still independent.

I love that too. Independent developer...do people really care? no.

I have my doubts S2 games will last too long past this game.
