After being previewed yesterday evening, Valve have today revealed "The Rekindling Soul" update for Dota 2, which is set to introduce a huge number of new features and content, including significant map layout changes and the arrival of the 6.82 balance patch.
The addition of a new "Bounty Rune", which offers free gold and experience, and a new position for Roshan's pit has massively altered many areas of the map, as shown in the above preview. A new "Crimson Guard" item, which previously appeared during this year's New Bloom update, will also be available to purchase from the shop and will provide the user 250hp and a huge chance to block damage.
A new model overhaul for Shadow Fiend has also introduce a new arcana item, the "Demon Eater", which introduces unique attack effects, altered voice lines, new animations, and a whole lot more. While maintaining their appearances, Bloodseeker and Phantom Lancer have been massively reworked. Bloodbath has been replaced by Blood Rite, an area of effect damage nuke and silence, while Phantom Lancer has received two abilities, Doppelganger and Phantom Rush, allowing him to dodge attacks and confuse enemies, and to spawn extra illusions, respectively.
We're not going to go into too many details about the 6.82 (there's just way too much to talk about), but we are going to cover some major changes to how the game's damage types are being simplified. HP Removal and Composite damage have both been removed from the game entirely, and all abilities that previously relied on either have been changed to one of the three remaining types, namely Physical/Magical/Pure.
Several other changes will also be introduced, including Courier Morphing, which will briefly transform the courier into that of the owner while in use, several new cosmetic item sets in the "Treasure of the Forged Fury" chest, and a Fight Recap system for DotaTV which provides an overview of the spells used and damage taken over the course of a team fight.
There's an absolutely HUGE amount of new content set to be introduced with the Rekindling Soul update for Dota 2, and we highly recommend checking out the official patch notes to find out how your favourite heroes or items may have been affected. The blog post released alongside the announcement page has also revealed that there will be no Diretide Halloween event this year, as the Dota 2 team are instead be focusing their efforts on a number of updates which will bring "monumental changes" to the game later this year and into 2015.
