Screens on a lower spec system?

As much as I love the graphics in the screenshots and e3 videos, I wish Valve would show us some screenshots on a lower system, just to show us roughly how it will look. Some of us can't afford a nice Radeon 9800XT and P4 3Ghz. I know they want to show us how sweet it looks, but some more average pc specs would be great. :|

If you want to know what it looks likeon your PC, wait for it to come out. I sincerly doubt Valve will ever release sub-par images of Half-Life 2. It's just a 100% marketing no-no.

The Bink videos (except for the HDR demo) were all taken from a 2000+ Athlon with a GeForce 4 TI, weren't they?
I remember reading this on the Valve Info thread or something...

didn't see the pre-e3 2k4 screens, did you ;)

They were unfinished and weren't meant to be seen at a high-resolution. That's a big difference :P

I thought that the benchmarking tool was supposed to handle this sort of thing. They were supposed to be thinking about releasing it soon after E3.

Didn't someone say that you can adjust the video quality so that it looks somewhere near like in HL.
Give us your system specs and we all will know if it runs on your pc.

Thanks for the help! My specs at the moment:

P4 2.5GHz
512MB RAM
Radeon 9200se *spit* (I am on the edge of buying a 9800pro do you think this will be a good card for HL2?)

I reckon the 9200 will do fine, but you won't get any of the neat DX9 features the Radeon 9600-9800 would give. Otherwise, I bet it'll run at a nice rate. :)

yep if you get the 9800 pro, you will be able to have the same detail as the videos.

Wow! On my 9200 Halo is pretty much unplayable. However I think I will go for the 9800pro as it's a special offer (£211 down to £134) What kinda graphical enhancements will i get? (higer frame rate, pixel shaders etc.)

By the way do you think this is in the wrong forum? :O

I have a 2.4ghz, 512mb, Radeon 9200 128mb and i asked valve about it and they said it will run fine in 1024x768

Anyone know a U.S. site that has that good of a deal goin' on? :)

I wouldn't mind upgrading from my 9600.

Thanks pk1209, I have just placed an order!
Also as the E3 Bink videos (eg. Coastline) do you think it will look better or worse than those? Sorry for all these questions :o

Those were played on a 3Ghz system with a 9800 Pro, if I recall correctly. They should look about the same, even better if you turn on AA and AF.

Bear in mind that this year's e3 presentation was done on an x800 series card, which have roughly twice the performance increase of a 9800 Pro.

if youre gonna upgrade from a 9600 you might as well get an x800pro or the 6800 whats the point of getting a new card and only going up 1/2 a step?

thats like having a geforce3 ti-200 and upgrading to a ti-500....rather pointless.

Have you checked out pricewatch.com?

Newegg.com also has great deals with excellent customer service.

Ah, they looked ok, but I didn't realise that AA was off, is that why they were slightly jagged round the edges?

Exactly why.

P4 2.6 here motman....i win :D...oh wait this was'nt a competition!

Yeah i reckon 9200 will run it just fine - i myself will be running the game on a ti4400...might have to go get the XT - those DX9 effects looks spiffy (HDR anyone?)

Actually the 9800pro would be about twice as good as what I have now in many areas... and there is no way in Hell I'll ever spend $400-$500 dollars on one.

not going to buy it there gonna get it much cheaper, i know people :D btw if you buy the 9800 so buy XT not pro the XT is better.

I agree, you wont get much of a boost going from a 96 to a 98...just a better framerate imo...
