i thought magazine reviews were usually done with gold copies? seems kinda crazy valve would let so many mags review a buggy non-gold version of their game. i'm thinking bs here...i starting to think the game has been gold all along...

No, it's not gold. The game is completed, but not gold.

Watch them pop out with a surprise mp.

thats usually not done...nearly complete means bugs...why would u let mags review a buggy unfinished product? i'm calling bs...

bah, you are just too optimistic and tricking yourself into believing things. the truth is that hl2 isn't coming out this year and most likely will never come out.

Its a fact (from a reliable source whos created and worked on many games) that 85% of magazines reviews are paid for anyway. he was working no a game, and before they had even played the game it had already been given a 80+% rating in severale PC magazines...

me smells bs back handers, or we are not being told its gone gold..

usually i wouldnt argue if a company doesnt announce when its gone gold, id just wait, but this is a differnt matter as i have the files on my system and its all paid for, and they have taken the money from the account with the promise of a game....

I agree.

seems like valve is like the george bush of the game dev world. they don't tell u crap and when finally they do, its a lie....hmmm

Haha, well, let me advise you to keep politics off the boards for your own safety (and that's my opinion, of course, I'm not saying you can't post stuff like that). Hl2.net has enough flaming and such when people just talk about the game, let alone comparing it to politics. Oooh, I'd hate to clean up those ashes...

This is believeable, which is why I will only trust reviews done after the game is released. Although Doom3 was a fun game the first time around, I didn't agree with the reviews done before it's release. The reviews done later were WAY more accurate in my opinion. Everyone likes something different in a game, but as for Doom3, the reviews done after it's release were far more fitting to my personal opinions on the game.

HL2 may or may not be in the same situation, but I definitely have the patience to wait for some reviews to be done after its release before I buy it.

I just got done reading the homepage, and was getting ready to post the same question.

I'm on to you valve.

Shenanigans! :dozey:

I've worked for a few gaming websites in my day, both were/are very large and well respected. We never paid for any review copies of games nor were we coaxed into giving a game a higher review then we ever though was fair (well this actually did happen on a few occasions but never ever accepted). Games have reviewable builds that can be reviewed (duh) before the game actually goes gold. No doubt that's what these mags are doing.

obviously its not that buggy. valve would not even submit an RC if there were any huge bugs that thye knew of. they may have overlooked some bugs or maybe they didnt even see some because they are hardware related, but im sure that the machines that the game was tested on at valve played the game flawlessly.
