Something I love about this game...

I love the lighting, physics, characters and immersive story, but one gameplay element makes me very, very happy.

Remember, back when you first played HL? You should sure as hell remember "We've Got Hostiles". I certainly do, and one thing that frustrates me to no end is that you have to fill the grunts with lead to make them fall down. I'm talking approx. 15 bullets here.

With my limited experience of HL2 and watching many of the video clips circulating around, I just have to say how much better it is this time around. Now the shotgun is actually worth using against humanoid enemies; I remember that in HL it cost you too much health to use against the gun-toting marines.

Poison Zombie> Gordon.
 
But I think we know that poison zombies own Gordon on all diffulcties.

But not the shotty.
 
??? I thought the shotgun was fine in hl1. If anything it seems weaker now.
 
If you've played the game on hard you'll see that it still takes an entire clip from the SMG to down a combine trooper. Shotgun is normally 2 or 3 shots from short-medium range.

I really wish valve had done something else other than increasing enemy HP on normal and hard... :\

Makes sense; I just finsihed HL1 on hard. Must be more head-shots than I think.

That's the nice thing about the shotty: you can get them on the upper torso, but if it's upper enough a bullet or two'll clip their skull.
 
Yes, I surely agree with the thread starter. I was very disappointed on the realism factor of damage to humanoid lifeforms. I mean, when you first encountered the marines, pretty much every gun you had sucked against them, even the shotgun at point blank. That made me sad. I'm happy to see that in HL2, even the USP Match can take down a Combine point blank with a shot to the head. That's how it should be.

Gordon with Crowbar > Poison Zombie

Take the headcrabs out one at a time like batting practice, and when theres no more, the zombie goes down easy.

Maybe he meant the fast zombies. =]

I didn't really notice that large of an increase in the health of most enemies, but then again I use the shotgun and crossbow almost exclusively. The striders and manatee helocopters, on the other hand... oh my. My RPG was overheating taking down those puppies.

I did notice that you RECEIVE a lot more damage, though. A Strider will simply melt the HEV suit.
 
Poison zombies are hard to kill...Though there is one thing that kills em easy. Explosives.
 
i gotta say to the guys who think they made it harder by adding health to the enemies from difficulty to difficulty that you are wrong wrong wrong.

On easy the weapons do more damage and the enemies are less intelligent. On normal it is as intended, i.e. the enemies have full intelligence but your guns do normal damage, hard they have the same intelligence but can take more rounds.
 
I don't know who that was aimed at, but yes, yes I am familiar with the term pedantic.

It will not, however, stop me from smiling like a madman when I take down a Combine soldier with 4 rounds from the SMG. :sniper:
