Sometimes when hitting F5, I notice that in the console it compressed the jpg into a 21.11 kb file which we all know is way wrong, it should be at least 200kb. So when I look at the screenshot in my folder, I see that its nothing but all black. Now sometimes the screenshot feature works fine, but its really annoying when I think I have setup the perfect screenshot, and it turns out black. What can I do about this? I have an ATI radeon 9700 all in wonder pro card with latest catalyst drivers.

Hmm... look around for the console commands. I believe there is one where you can adjust the "quality" of the outputted JPEG between 0 and 100 (like in Photoshop). Perhaps if you alter the setting from what it currently is, it'll give you a random miracle cure (TM)

Yep I get the black screenshot thing going on with mine too. It's annoying but meh, used to work, im guessing its some setting I've turned on that prevents Screenshots being taken properly. *shrugs*

Perhaps AA or AF or something like that?

Maybe I'll run Fraps while HL2 is running and take screenshots that way

You could also use the print screen button. the only problem is, to take more than one screenshot, you would have to alt-tab and paste your screenie into a picture editor. The problem is that HL2 really doesn't like being alt-tabbed out.
