Ok, this sound stuttering "problem" that everyone is talking about, are we talking about constant non stop stuttering that is likely caused by an actual bug, or are we talking about that quick burst of stuttering once every 5 or so minutes which is more than likely caused by the game trying to autosave A LOT of info without making any indication on that HUD that it is doing so?

Just check your save files each time the game stutters, you may find it just autosaved.

My sound starts to skip whenever a character like alyx, barney, gman, etc. starts to talk. But it gets a bit better if I quicksave after they finish talking, and then reload it right before they start talking - then the sound is smoother (prob cuz its on RAM) - but it still does skip a tiny bit if theres lots going on.

Then theres a different kind of skip which is more of a constant stutter, which I get when I max out my settings. When its maxed out the framerate is okay until some npc starts talking - then it starts constantly s-t-u-t-t-t--e-r-i-n-g. ing ing ing. -ing.

So, its not always a case of autosaving. It plays fine when i have textures set to medium, No aa/af and high models.

Revenge; that patch helped me significantly, not only in sound stuttering, but overall performance. The commands it adds are great, and I can now have all settings on high and get an average 40FPS in all maps at 1024x768. On a side note, I have a PNY GeForce FX 5200 128MB graphics card, and it severely helped me out. I used to have all settings on medium and not even think about getting this performance. Thanks for posting the link!

Some people do get constant stuttering. But for many, the stuttering issue is as "Idonotbelonghere" said,. an occasional stutter when the game loads sounds or textures (not for autosave, which only happens right after load points.)
