Source Bugs in CS:S = HL2 Bugs?

I've been wondering if some of the bugs in the CS:S bugs list (fixed yesterday) indicate some Source bugs that would be bugs in HL2 as well (and thus no gold soon). For example, from yesterday's list I see the following as potentially affecting HL2 as they are likely Source related:

Improved consistency of hitboxes between the server and client [if there is HL2 DM]
Fixed glows showing through map geometry
Fixed grenades getting stuck in props
Fixed rendering errors with DX8 and anti-aliasing
Fixed alt-tab video corruption bugs

There was also the physics props crashing the engine of a couple days ago.

I think these indicate HL2 as a few more hurdles to jump.
 
That's the whole meaning imho of the beta-test.
 
Exactly. The CS:S beta is testing the source engine and everything else that goes along with it. By beta testing CS:S, people are also helping advance HL2.
 
I think most of those could very well be CSS only..
 
But the question is, what if they are not only CSS bugs, could this mean that HL2 is farther off than expected?
 
Um... duh?!? The CS:S beta isn't to test out CS:S... it's to test out the source engine itself, this is the entire point of the beta, this is why there is only one map. HL2 is not farther off than expected... it's exactly where it is expected... in the beta testing phase.
 
i think they will only update CS once more, to fix the slight errors that this new update created (see the CS forum) then hl2 will be ready to roll.
 
sorry to throw off the topic, but, was the most receant CSS update the last one they will release for beta?
 
i dont see how u people can say that the bugs SC:s is in HL2, sure HL2 might have some bugs but those in sc:s are bugs that will be there all the way untill it leaves beta.. and while iam at it, any mod even for HL thats in beta contains these kinds of bugs while the main game dosnt

HL2 and CS:S are on the same engine. If the engine has a bug, both games have the bug. And Valve has been fixing CS:S bugs for a while, so bugs in CS:S are fixed and updated fairly regularly. Source bugs fixed in CS:S I assume will fix bugs in HL2 as well.

Although I tend to agree with you, that HL2 as it is, has no MP.. you can't say for sure.
 
i have a feeling that Valve are going to whip out a UT2004 style game for multiplayer, with the vehicles. So far they are just perfecting it.
 
Well CS:S hasn't been in development for 5 years like HL2 has. I imagine HL2 has fewer bugs than CS:S does
 
If the CS:S condition == HL2 condition that I'd guesstimate a release date about this far into the future: >-----------------------< (each "-" is a couple of light years. Or 1 Lombardi) ;( Okay maybe not. But I don't see a release in the near future anyway. Unless they fix more bugs than they let us know (in the beta). Makes sense.
 
i think roughly around the time (before or after) the CS: S beta finishes up is when we'll here an announcment for HL2 going gold. they wont get all the bugs out but most of them and they'll release an update or 2 before the game is released.

yeah same engine diffrent coded = bugs tend to evolve so there you got it.. i mean CS had the same problems in its early stages that you could see thrue walls etc but that wasnt a problem in regular HL. So basicly its the new code thats making CS:s look so buggy

I should think that most CS:S bugs have some sort of affect in half life 2, but you also have to remmember that new textures/objects created for cs:s can cause various problems, for example it could explain the sticky grenades. I remmember seeing Gabe write that they were working on bugs at the moment and cutting them down every day, those really arn't very many bugs to have and there are very few new ones discovered.

It seems to me valve are working very hard to bring us an extremly polished and smooth experience, something that has become very rare in recent years. Infact i seem to have some sort of technical problem with most games i buy.

Anyway, yeah some bugs will effect HL2. Those that are general engine bugs.

I don't see the problem. If those bugs were also in HL2, doesn't that mean they're now... um... fixed? I'd think that puts HL2 closer to being done, not farther.

Precisely. Valve were expecting to find bugs with the Source engine, they made that clear from the day the CS:S beta was announced.

I'm happy that all these bugs are getting fixed, but it would've been better if none were found. At all.
 
I guess I depends if the bug is in CSS or in the Source engine. In HL1 terms, hl.exe or the client/sever.dll. Reguardless I'm sure any Source engine fixes applied during the CSS beta will apply to HL2 either in the form of the final gold CD or as a patch post HL2 release. If you buy it off steam then you will automaticly be updated.

In my opinion the bugs you listed sound like Source engine bugs from a HL1 point of view but who knows what they expose to the mods in the Source engine. I'm sure the modders have access to more of the engine in Source than HL1
 
i know that its a beta, but is there a chance that fps will be a little bit better? or does beta only fix changes like netcode and bugs?
 
well not slow down, but kinda make more optimized for more fps.
 
You might get some FPS boost when the next versions of display drivers are released. Normally they cheat and optimize their drivers for the bigger games.
