Well, with all of my crashing I about gave up. But, I was able to keep Portal stable to get through it even though Ep2 is still giving me trouble.

that said, I've read that there are parts of Ep2 that make reference to Portal. Would someone mind explaining these references to me since I don't know when Ep2 will be stable enough for me to play on my own?

I'm not a big anti-spoiler person. I'll still enjoy it just as much even if I read about it first.

The Borealis, which Mossman is trying to get to, is a ship that mysteriously disappeared, but serves as a lab / experimentation place for Aperture Science, which Eli and Kleiner refer to as "Black Mesa's rival".

yup^ there is a buisness room in portal and there is a protector that shows the funding of the aperture science and black mesa.

The Aurora Borealis is actually the ice breaker ship that was meant to be in
Half Life 2 before it got leaked.
A mobile lab which belongs to Aperture Science,which is related to Portal.
We will probably get to see some references to Portal in EP3 and hopefully get to use the Portal device in it as well.
I assume so anyway.
Why bother with related plots in the same universe then,right?

Yeah there's no actual reference to the events of Portal but there are several references to ASL. There are some cargo containers to start and the big in is when the footage of the Borialis is shown. There's then a chat about the ship and how ASL rushed ahead with the research in desperation to compete with Mesa.
The projector in Portal displays a few slides comparing ASL with Mesa. It compares bids competed for and bids won basicaly. Black Mesa was seriously trouncing ASL which might explain why they over-stretched themselves and got into trouble on at least two sites.
Also, Portal has the best end credits ever and it's possible that they also point the route that is to be taken in the HL2 world.
Lastly, just me or does the woman in Portal look similar to Alyx?

No, Borealis was scrapped before then - just like all the rest of the stuff. The leak had nothing to do with what got scrapped and what didn't.
