What is the term "spoilers" used for and why?

a spoiler in this case is when something that the people who have not yet completed the game might not know.. like for example..

somone telling the ending outcome is a spolier because somone who has just started the game would not know and would not want to know.. the game would be 'spoilt' if someone told you this.

the spoiler 'alert' is just a warning.. so that you do not ruin the gaming experiance for yourself.
