Star Wars: Empire At War demo this Wednesday....

It has a bit of Total War with the map of the universe, it's a bit like Ground Control with the control points you have to take, and the (ground) action plays out like your regular RTS. It's a bit of everything really. IGN's latest preview gives a good overview of the game.

Awesome.

Now, Is it hardware intensive?

Could my FX5200 run it with no problems?

The ground combat looks hardware intensive, looks damn purdy on my 7800gt, in space it didnt look too intensive but u can have a crap load of units on the screen at once so maybe it is.

Fileplanet ftw.
It'll be done d/ling in 28 minutes... after 2 1/2 hours of waiting. :D

your joking right ?

EDIT : Downloading now, a friend gave me his fastpass accoutn for filefront ^^, Horray for friendship !

Can someone post a link please? I have tried google with no luck.

And perferably a site that requires no registration of any kind.

damn Filefront, even the subcribtion servers are slow and it dont resume, sucks
i miss my Fileplanet subscribtion =(

I'm not subscribed to anything and I've been downloading at 80 kb/s.

There is a torrent out at Gamershell, I used it and got around ~60-70 kb/s. The speed should pickup since there are more seeders now and you won't have problems resuming. :)

The game itself is nothing revolutionary but it does have a 'fun' factor that's been missing in a lot of RTS' lately. Although it's hard to judge whether it'll have lasting appeal since a lot of my enjoyment came from the initial excitement of it being a new demo.

I am halfway thru the demo (played the tutorials) and I am quite sure by now I will be buying this. It's no hardcore RTS and the space battles aren't as intricate as the Homeworld series, but it's very enjoyable.

Woot, I was totally sure that this would flop.
But I guess I was wrong... So far nothing but positive feedback for it.

Played up to Tutorial 3, and I'm loving it.
Great graphics, nice and clean interface... But unfortunately I have school.
But I'm definitely buying this when it comes out.

problem with empire at war

i keep having this error:
A required security module can not be activated. This program can not be executed.

I've disabled my firewall and antivirus software and same problem...

I got it last night and played all the tutorials. I thought it was okay. Nothing to write home about though. I like the planetary map/overview but I thought the ground and space fighting was very run of the mill. There is no chance that I would ever consider buying it.

The planetary map screen was okay but the game "Star Wars Rebellion" was much better, deeper and infinitely more fun. The ground and space battles were okay but in my opinion "Star Wars Battlegrounds" was much more enjoyable to play.

I had high hopes for this one, but in my opinion it didn't deliver.

I thought it was easily the best RTS I`ve played, maybe the Star Wars theme swung it for me somewhat, but if it did, it`s only cos it is used to such great effect through the game (demo) that it get`s you all hyped up.

The space battles I think are amazing, with the x-wings and y-wings hitting the destroyers hard points, and dog fighting with tie`s, all looks extremely pretty.

I also liked the way the ground battles worked, with you having to knock out shield generators to bases etc, and bringing re-inforcements that you put into orbit before the battle, and of course fighting the AT-AT`s and watching them topple over when defeated, brilliant stuff.

Also, it`s 1000000000x better than that crap Force Commander.

I'm glad you like it. I guess previous Star Wars strategy games sort of ruined this one for me. It's not like I hated this one. I just don't think it did anything particularly well and felt incredibly shallow for lack of a better term.

In my opinion I think Star Wars Rebellion is easily the best Star Wars strategy game ever made. It might even be my favorite all around strategy game of all time. If you haven't played this gem from 1998, do yourself a favor and pick it up. It's got a steep learning curve, but it is well worth it in the long run.

Downloading it for the 3rd time lol. Download kept gaying me.

I agree. This is bland and feels tired, and I was just aching for the boring space battles to end as soon as possible. There's no sense of tactics, even though the game spouts on about them. It's just produce, produce, rush, rush. Bleh.

I liked it. Especially how they made the ships to have multiple points to target.

One thing that bothered was that the AI is _STUPID_! I'm talking about the AI that controls your troops movement behavior etc. It felt very unresponsive and slow. The troops frequently just ran a few circles before starting to move to the point they were commanded to and this made them an easy target to those hoverbike hit 'n' run bombings.

Going to wait for the full version before making any final decisions.
