Startup loading faster

There was a thread a while back about a few lines of text to delete in the steam folder to make the 3d startup backgrounds go away so I don't have to wait 3 minute to start playing. I used forum search and couldn't locate it. Can anyone either link me to the thread if they can find it or just tell me what to do? Thanks.

+sv_forcepreload 1 +cl_forcepreload 1 +snd_mixahead 0.4 -console

Removes the 3d background for the start up screen. It doesn't take a year to load on a lesser system.

Right click Half-Life 2 in "My Games', go to Properties, then Launch Options.

the forum post indicated editing the following file:

"C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\<e-mail>\half-life 2\hl2\cfg\valve.rc"

and comment out the last line of the file.

this:

// display the startup level
startupmenu

becomes this:

// display the startup level
//startupmenu

that removes the 3d background and leads to a shorter load time.

EDIT: just timed it, before i had to wait about a minute and 30 seconds, now i have to wait less than 30 seconds!

You don't need to put the forcepreloads in your launch options. Change them in your config or just change them in game.
