Steam error

I have HL2 and Episode One which installed successfully. Played them both with no problems so I decided to check out Lost Coast. After the long grueling download and with the box checked "launch when completed" it came on ready to play, but it was late so decided to play the next day. When I went to start the game I get the error message....

THIS OPERATION CANNOT BE COMPLETED OFFLINE​

As best as I can tell, Steam is online, it appears on the taskbar. I tried HL2 and Episode One and don't get the error. Thinking just maybe it can't be played offline....I got online and still get the same message. I know I'm missing something obvious but just can't figure it out. Can someone offer help please.....thanks.

if the steam icon is red then its offline try restarting steam

Thanks Giant384. I didn't even notice the red dots..just saw the black steam box icon and assumed....its true what they say about assuming...I'm the a$$ and 'YOUR DA MAN'...thanks for the help!
