Steam PROBLEMS

I seem to have a major problem on my hands and it's beginning to really tick me off.....
I have just recently purchased HL2 and it is saying that i need a cd key to regester it... but there wasn't a cd key anywhere on or in the box!!! how am i suppose to regester my game and get it to work on the steam platform without the stupid cd key?!

please help!!

actually - i rechecked all the paper cd cases that i have in my house - in case i had mixed them with the others after i transfered the cd's to hard cases - but my search was of no use- there isn't any paper cd cases that have any remote thing as a cd key on them :frown: is it just me or did i get gyped?

You might have. It should be on the plastic CD case on the inside (or on the paper CD case). If you really can't find it, go back to the store. Maybe you overlooked it. (Which is hard to do, but meh )

Well either way with or without steam(if valve never made steam) it wouldn't of worked because it would require a cd key either way.
Anyway, there should be 5 paper cd cases, the first cd's paper case had a white sticky thing that has a bunch of numbers on.

My CD-key isn't on a paper case, it's on a sticker inside the DVD case, under where the first disk is inside. Then again, I suppose that's true of DVD case versions only.

yea ive seen that before i bought a hl1 pack for my friend at the store and all of the cd keys were stolen off of them

well, I can certainly say that I didn't buy the DVD version - there were several peices of paper inside the box - which by the way - was completely taped, with the origonal tape... it didn't seem to have been tampered with - thats the main thing i checked for - tampering, i knew that you needed a CD key... my friend ever so graciously allowed me to use his log in for steam - so now i'm up and playing - but have incountered yet another problem.... I am at the very end of "Entanglement" after the part where you're stuck in the lower part of what appears to be a jail, you are given 3 turret guns to set up, and are bombarded by combine soldiers... I am slightly past that, where you follow Alyx down the stair well and towards the double doors... every time I reach the double doors - i get the loading sign in the bottom right hand corner, and before it come's round, it shuts down without saying any error... any help in this area?

Thank you for your backup Glenn, I wouldn't quite consider it rubbing it in my face... I took it more as a "look how many people it has happened to...

You should have taken the game back immediately if you couldn't find a cd-key. There's no reason that you should have to use someone else's account... take the game back!

Unfortunately - My work is occupying most of my daylife for now, I will make sure to return it for a different one - or just simply trade what i have for one with a cd key - that cannot be done untill mid-next week when i get a day off from work. Thank you tho
