Naw, dude. It does it automatically when you start game in question

It'll do it automatically if there's an update, so there's no need for that.

Just make sure all your installed games are set to keep updated.

ok cool so the message that hammer gives me saying that i should make sure that all my progs are up to date is just Hammer having no friends and not knowing what to say else

No, you should start each of your programs once to make sure they recieve their respective updates.

well then whats the point of auto-update if its not auto

it is automatic. when you start the application. would you like it if you were playing some other game and the screen cuts out and brings you back to the desktop where a little dialog box that says "update in progress" awaited you?
