Sorry that I haven't got any pictures that I can put on here, but I just realised something. In the BugBait vid, I noticed that there are posters on the walls, just before the combat with the first lot of Combine. These posters contained strange symbols, and if you were fast enough, you might of noticed them on combine shoulder pads.

One of the symbols look like an inverted 'C' with a filled in 'O' in the centre. Would this mean COMBINE?

Do you know what they mean? (Any screenshots would help)

You mean this?

Yeah, that's kinda what I thought. Before I looked harder, I thought it was a gamecube logo. :) I'm not sure what it could really be.

It's a conspiracy! Nintendo control the combine and the G-Man is really Shigura Miyamoto!

I saw those too, and I also wondered about them.

Here's my theory:

See that "C" shape with the "O"? Reminded me a lot of the "Clamp" Logo from Gremlins 2. I reckon it's supposed to be a vice/clamp that has a hold on earth - a symbol for the Combine.

The sillhouette in the blue poster looks like a handcuff, to me, and the shapes in the yellow posters look like a crowd of people, cheering and waving...

its on the backs of the city 17 people, so i think it might be the symbol for the city or something, or maybe the combine make everyone wear it

Best explanation yet. I think that is likely what it is. And if it isn't, it should be

email Valve and see if your right :)

The white figures on the blue and yellow posters sure do look like C M B (combine). And yeah, a handcuff in a cloudy sky and people cheering in the background seems right

Why would invading aliens put posters up? Thats kind of silly, but if the combine aren't aliens then that makes sense... Like propaganda for the people to try and brainwash them or something, however that doesn't look like any language written on them that i've ever seen...

An alien ship lands on earth and the aliens look peacfull and look like us humans, anyway they act friendly and kinda take over earth with propaganda and sjit. And a group of non believers find some nasty stuff out about the aliens and form a rebel group against them to free the earth from the aliens.

I seen one or two episodes of V, but it was too old and frankly not my taste. I did watch Dark Skies though, which reminds me. The combine could be controlled by parasites, similar in fasion to the Zombies, but with direct control to the brain. They were originally normal people, until parasites from Xen or somewhere else started to meddle with their minds.

A thought just popped into my head, what would the chances be of HL2 sharing some similarities with World War 2 and the Holocaust?

read my post in the hl2 storyline forum. it fits quite good.

Hmm... ' V' wasn't that the series with the alien guy eating a hamster? Lol sorry that's all I can remember from it

"V" stood for "Visitors". I think the lizard dudes ate anything and everything, including mice, canaries, and even humans.

I think that, if the Combine are invading aliens, and if the invasion is a gradual, "V"-style thing, then they probably would put some posters up. Maybe the human population began to think it was cool to use the combine language? Heck knows there have been stranger fads.

Alternatively, the posters could be for the Combine soldiers/Metrocops themselves... something along the lines of "Keep up the great work, fellow Combine! Victory is within reach!", or "For less chafing of your prisoners wrists, choose "C"-brand Handcuffs. "C"-brand Handcuffs: Like having one's hands immobilised by clouds..."

yeh, Its the most convincing story line yet. and having, 'gulp' played the beta, theres propaganda everywhere, and I do believe that symbol is related to the combine. like their campaigning symbol or something, but the rest of the plot I still dont have the foggiest idea about

No V was for 'Victory' if you remeber the old guy taking the spraycan off the young vandel and telling him to spray the symbol everywhere.

Anyways my belief is that there is another 'end boss' type creature that has begun to take over Earth in much the same way that it did on Xen. Controlling people like the 'slaves'.
From Earth history its not hard to believe that it can only take 1 person to change the thoughts of a entire belief.

I really doubt that beta-players should speculate, just in case they let out any spoilers, however unintentionally... That was directed at you clarky. Yet another example of the sort of thing I wouldn't have wanted to know until I'd played the game. Thanks.

Victory, eh? Odd. Most of us used to call the show "Visitors" over here. Weren't the aliens even referred to as the Visitors?

Okay, now for something a little different... Some online companions and I have been examining the Bugbait video, and we've all (separately) spotted something interesting. Those posters on the wall... the ones with the symbol on them that looks like a clamp or vice... is that the Combine symbol? It reminds me of the one from Gremlins 2. Is it an easter egg meant to suggest a little more of the storyline? The clamp in the symbol looks to be holding what could be a planet...

*** No easter eggs as far as I'm aware.

Hmmmm...

I wonder if he meant that globally?

doh , :( sorry Brian, from this post onward im keeping my mouth shut, and no more threads about this, but then again this is a potential spoilers forum that your in, so you may have to shield your eyes, or stay away from it all together

No, clarky, this is the rumours and speculation forum... spoilers are against the rules of these forums...

Never mind, what's spoiled is spoiled. Move on, move on...

I suspect it isn't this but the symbol also reminds me of a person with their hands up (head is the circle, "V" is the arms), since the Combine are oppressing the civilian population it doesn't seem too unlikely for the symbol to have a relationship to that aspect of the Combine.

I thought the same thing.
