Stuck at the Canal Gate

Ok, I've gotten the water boat and made it past the jump that you have to float with the blue barrels, but right now I'm stuck at that large canal gate. I've gone up the side and cleared out the Combine soldiers, but it seems that the controls are broken. Where do I go from there?

I'll give you a hint for this one...... they give you alot of grenades for a reason, head to the broken valve and look around.

Actually the grenades are useful for taking out the combine... not what you need to do... all you need a few bullets...

go out on the little ledge/porch thing thats off of the room that had all the combine in it. To the right there is a little tower type structure with a bunch of girders tied to a rope hanging from it. Shoot the supports of the tower, the girders swing and break open the gates.
