Stuck in ravenholm

The priest is standing on a roof and he is introducing himself. After he is finished i have no idea what to do next.

Can anyone help me ?

Yep I'm stuck here as well.

When I go forward into the room, the room is a dead end. So I turn around and go the other way.

How do I actually get onto the roof in the first place?
Which roof - the one where he was standing?
I can't seem to climb up anything to get to the roof - winch mechanism?
I basically keep dropping back to the floor and need to keep going up to the planks again using the "car lift".

Please help.

When you're at the upper levels (the sort of ramshackle second floor made above the street) by using the "car lift" as you put it, try travelling in either direction- the planks should lead to a fairly obvious opening eventually.
