Stuck in room behind Auto Gun

While Alex fixes the car I'm supposed to shut this thing off. I'm in the room behind it and all i can do is open up a panel that's attached to it with a cable. Is it anything to do with the tires? And there are 'particles' drifting into the open panel. Please help, thanks.

Press button, throw grenade inside, not very hard to figure out, it even shows a little pull effect which shows air being pulled into the air intake...

The irony being that for most gamers, when a solution isn't readily apparent, you usually resort to explosives anyway. :/
