I just noticed something while playing around with the Source SDK. If you attempt to launch scenemanager.exe out of the sourcesdk\bin directory, you get the following error:

Fatal Error

Can't setup path, set VPROJECT to your game directory (e.g. D:/DEV/TF2) in your environment.

Seeing past the bad spelling and grammar, it looks like Valve may be working on TF2!

we know VALVe is workign on TF2 from a long time ago

We've known that since last years E3 I think?

Oh boy. Par-ty.

Yes, we've known that for quite a while now.

did they actually ever stop work on tf2? i don't think so. probably just put it on the side until HL2 was done with just a few people working on it.

They put it on the backburner. They couldn't keep talking about its technology when they were still developing source (and secretly HL2), so they cut off all the info about it. Robin Walker and John Cook were probably still doing something for it while HL2 was being developed, but then again who knows?

Anyway, while it's common knowledge that Valve's been working on TF2 and that we'll hear an announcement about it "sometime," the real questions are "when?" and "how much has it changed?".

I can answer when for you, I remember Gabe Newell saying shortly after Half-Life2's release. I mean it's not specific, but just in case you missed it, it gives you some indication. My money is on for early next year with new media for TF2, it'll definately make an appearance at E3 next year, well fingers crossed.
