A couple coworkers and I are sharing a townhouse for a week, and we're going to have a LAN set up. I'd love for us to be able play TF2 together, either on a LAN or online, but I think I'm the only one that's bought it.

I'm pretty sure that they'd have to buy it in order to play online, but is there a *legal* way for us to play over the LAN without them having to buy anything?

you can play a lan game with the same account on as many pcs as you want.

Uh, really? I'm not so sure you can... I think you'd have to be in not offline mode to play online, which means you'd need seperate accounts.

You have to be in offline mode to play on the same account. Of course, this restricts you to LAN games, but it should work.

Sign into your account on your computer, then go into offline mode, then set his computer and go into offline mode. Voila!

I think you can log into one account as many times as you want if you play on a LAN, but only one of you can play online.

Oh, okay then. So as long as offline mode works, he'll be sweet?

I'm not sure. I haven't had to do this for years, or since I got my second and third Steam accounts. It might be different now. Try without offline mode on first (just login to the account on all the PCs, start up TF2, make a LAN game), if that fails then put offline mode on all of them and try that way.

If it doesn't work anymore, you're S.O.L. and should just convince them to buy TF2, it's worth it anyway :D

Thanks guys... I'll try that Ennui... and a couple of them don't usually play games, so I don't think I'll be convincing them to buy it.

Also, you've got the option of 'gifting' them TF2 for 3 days however long it lasts if you have trouble. You should have 1 gift pass for TF2.

As long as offline mode works, your only other major annoyance is copying the .gcf files over a couple times.

exactly....only in a lan games will that work. if one person plays an online server then it will ask everyone else that there steam ticket expired. you can still be connected to the internet for this to work people...ive done it many times.
