[br]In celebration of it's 1 year Anniversary, the Mann Co Store is unveiling a number of new features and items. [br]A new feature called Steam Workshop is being unrolled, which is an "improved item submission system that allows community item-creators to test, share and track the status of their creations." The TF2 community can browse, rate and offer feedback for every submission, with full integration with Steam Community.[br] Also on the way are a number of new hats and cosmetic items:
In addition to the Workshop, the Manniversary Update will also ship 30 new hats and cosmetic items, an item decal system, weeklong "try before you buy" item tryouts, loadout presets, multiple miscellaneous items slots, improved game performance, and a new taunt. The Update is one of the largest and most ambitious in TF2's four-year history.
One year from launch, the Mann Co. Store has netted a whopping $2 Million for Valve and the artists who contributed. Check out the full blog post here.[br]

You seem to get a present when you boot up the game. Haven't been able to try it myself, because it is still updating.

EDIT The item is a paper hat. Yay ...

How much money contributed to the Japan Earthquake Relief?
$430,543.65

Some of the additions:
  • Two misc slots
  • Save up to four loadouts and switch between them easily
  • The class select screen allows you to pick between the four and shows what items you currently have equipped
  • Added an abuse-reporting system
  • A third track from Meet the Medic was added to the main menu
  • New map: Gullywash
  • Updated replay editor with slow-mo, shaky cam and the ability to include voice chats
  • Many bot AI changes
  • Razer Hydra support added
  • Weapon switch bug re-added as a server command
  • Steam Community screenshots have in-built support
  • Added Football Manager promo items including a vuvuzela
  • Reserve shooter can be equipped by Pyro (looks the exact same for him)
  • Free paper hat for everyone
  • Picket sign weapon that you can add custom textures to

Also, the gallery for contributed items has a drop down menu to select a game. Of course TF2 is the only option but it seems Valve want more companies to take up this community contribution thing.

Oh by the way prepare some artstyle crying: The Cow Mangler 5000 is now the first weapon that can be painted (but in team-coloured paints only).

...playing last night, there were quite a few people trying to trade for paper hats. Didn't everyone get one?

That confetti-eating bear got what was coming to it alright.
